New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media today at the Parliament premises before the start of the Winter Session 2025. He said that the Winter Session is not just a formality but an important period that gives new energy for the country’s ongoing development. He expressed confidence that this session will further strengthen the work being done to speed up India’s progress.

The Prime Minister said that India has always shown the strength of its democratic traditions. Referring to the recent Bihar elections, he praised the record voter turnout and called it a strong example of the country’s democratic spirit. He also highlighted the rising participation of women voters, saying it brings new hope and confidence to India’s democracy. PM Modi said the world is watching how India’s strong democratic system is also helping the country’s economic growth. “India has proved that democracy can deliver,” he said.

PM Modi urged all political parties to keep the session focused on national interest, constructive debate and policy-based decisions. He asked the Opposition to raise meaningful and relevant issues and not allow frustration from election defeats to disturb Parliament. At the same time, he reminded ruling party members that the session should not show arrogance from election victories. “This session must show balance, responsibility, and dignity,” he said.

Highlighting the need for informed debate, the Prime Minister said members should improve what is working well and point out shortcomings in a constructive way so that people get correct information. He also expressed concern that first-time and young MPs are not getting enough chances to speak. He requested all parties to give them more opportunities, saying the nation must benefit from the ideas and energy of the new generation.

PM Modi stressed that Parliament is a place for policy and performance, not drama or slogans. “For theatrics or slogans, there are many other places. Parliament must remain focused on policy,” he added.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the special importance of this session as it begins under the guidance of the new Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He congratulated the Chairman and said his leadership will further strengthen the working of the House.

Speaking on economic reforms, PM Modi said that GST has built a strong environment of trust among citizens and is now becoming a next-generation reform. He said the Winter Session will play a role in pushing many important initiatives forward.

PM Modi also expressed concern that Parliament is sometimes used as a warm-up for elections or as a place to express anger after electoral losses. “People of the country have not accepted such behaviour. It is time for a change in approach,” he said. He even offered to give tips to those who want to improve their performance.

The Prime Minister ended his address by saying that the country is firmly moving on the path of progress. He said the Winter Session will give new strength and new energy to India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.
