Wayanad Landslide Triggers Massive Rescue Operation; Priyanka Gandhi Expresses Grief and Appeals for Public Support

Wayanad | A devastating landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad district has claimed several lives and left many others missing, triggering an extensive rescue operation by various government agencies. CCTV footage capturing the frightening moments of the landslide near Meenakshi Bridge at Kalladi has gone viral on social media, showing the force of the disaster.

The landslide occurred near the site of the proposed tunnel road project connecting Wayanad and Malappuram districts, where construction work was in progress. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police personnel and Civil Defence volunteers, have been deployed to search for survivors and assist affected families.

Wayanad Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and said that every possible effort is being made to rescue those still trapped under the debris. She stated that relief and rescue operations are being closely monitored, with senior officials, district authorities and ministers coordinating efforts on the ground.

Expressing her heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, Priyanka Gandhi assured them of every possible support during this difficult time. She also prayed for the safety of those still missing and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Priyanka Gandhi appealed to Congress workers, United Democratic Front (UDF) members and the general public to extend all possible assistance while strictly following the directions of the district administration. She emphasized that relief and rescue operations should not be obstructed and urged everyone to cooperate with the authorities.

Congress leader, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Former MP of Wayanad Rahul Gandhi in his message said that, “The news of the landslide in Wayanad is deeply distressing. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. Relief and rescue operations are underway, and every possible effort is being made to reach those still trapped. I appeal to all Congress and UDF workers to extend any assistance in this time of need. Wayanad has shown remarkable resilience in the face of adversity before, and together, we will stand by every affected family through this tragedy.”
