Bengaluru | Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar and a period of mourning for Muslims, especially the Shia community, was observed with religious devotion and solemnity in Bengaluru on Friday. A large number of devotees participated in a Muharram congregation and procession organized by Anjuman-e-Imamia, a registered Shia representative body in Karnataka since 1936.

The procession commenced from Masjid-e-Askari near Johnson Market and proceeded towards Shia Aaraamgah (Shia Burial Ground). Young and elders from different parts of the city took part in the event to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrath Imam Hussain (A.S.), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Religious scholars highlighted the significance of the tragedy of Karbala, which took place in 680 AD on the banks of the River Euphrates. They recalled the supreme sacrifice made by Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions, who stood firmly for truth, justice and righteousness against tyranny and oppression.

Speaking to our Editor-in-Chief, Dr. B. R. Abdul Wajid, Mirza Ali Raza, Administrator of Anjuman-e-Imamia, Bengaluru, said that the organisation has been conducting Muharram Majlis and the traditional procession in the area for nearly 100 years. He said the main purpose of the observance is to spread the timeless message of Karbala among the public, highlighting the values of truth, justice and sacrifice.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Richmond Town for their continued cooperation and support over the years. He also thanked the local MLA, N. A. Haris, for his constant support to the Muharram programmes. Mirza Ali Raza further appreciated the Bengaluru Police, the Greater Bengaluru Authority, BWSSB and all other government departments for extending full cooperation and ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Muharram congregation and procession. On behalf of Anjuman-e-Imamia, he thanked everyone who contributed to the successful organisation of the event.

The observance concluded with prayers for peace, communal harmony and the well-being of the nation. Participants reiterated that the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S.) remains a timeless symbol of truth, justice and resistance against oppression, inspiring generations across the world.
