Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Modi government is destroying Great Nicobar Island by allowing large-scale felling of trees and damage to coral reefs. He claimed that more than 1.5 crore trees, ancient rainforests and valuable ecological resources are being destroyed for the benefit of one businessman. He urged young Indians to raise their voice and support the campaign to save the island.

Sharing details of his recent visit to Great Nicobar, Rahul Gandhi said he met tribal communities and settlers who, according to him, are facing displacement and inadequate compensation. He stated that development should be environmentally sustainable and said he would fully support any genuine defence-related expansion. Calling Andaman and Nicobar Islands India’s precious natural heritage, he appealed to citizens to join the campaign by signing the petition at rahulgandhi.in/nicobar-matters and become part of the fight to protect the islands for present and future generations.
