New Delhi | Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a special Congress Party media briefing at AICC Headquarters, Indira Bhawan, New Delhi, said that the vote is the foundation of the country and alleged that an attack on the vote is an attack on the democratic system of India.
Rahul Gandhi said that the vote, which is supposed to be protected by the Election Commission, gives power to the Constitution. From the Constitution, laws are made, and from the laws, institutions emerge. He said this is a chain which defines modern India.
He alleged that the issue is not only an attack on the vote but also an attack on the basic infrastructure of democracy and the expression of every Indian.

Rahul Gandhi demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should resign immediately. He said that the two Election Commissioners had done a wise thing and appreciated them. He also advised Gyanesh Kumar to think seriously about his position and “turn approver”, saying that it would be an act of nationalism.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are at the centre of what he described as a conspiracy and said that they would be investigated for what they have done to the country. He said this was an act against the Indian state and the people of India and asserted that the Congress and the Opposition would not remain silent.
Speaking about anti-incumbency, Rahul Gandhi said that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have stated that the BJP government would remain in the country for many years. He said that he had been observing politics for nearly 50 years and that no leader could make such a statement with certainty.
He referred to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and said that although she won the Bangladesh war, anti-incumbency emerged within the next few years. He said many Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers had faced anti-incumbency and described it as India’s greatest political force.
Rahul Gandhi questioned why, according to him, this force does not affect Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. He said the answer had been given by the two Election Commissioners.

Rahul Gandhi also used the term “DESHDROHI” while referring to those whom he accused of attacking the vote and destroying India’s democratic institutions. He alleged that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister had attacked and destroyed the democratic architecture of the country.

He said there are two weapons for what he called “vote theft” — SIR and EVMs — and alleged that the BJP was carrying out “vote theft” through both methods.
Explaining his argument, Rahul Gandhi said, “From Vote Chori comes Kanoon Chori, because if the vote is stolen, the legal structure is lost. From Kanoon Chori comes Sanstha Chori.” He further alleged that if votes are stolen and MPs enter Parliament on the basis of such votes, then the laws they make and institutional changes they bring would also be illegal.

He further alleged that the 2024 Lok Sabha election was completely fake, and claimed that elections held before that and Assembly elections were also affected by rigging.
