Rahul Gandhi Demands Education Minister’s Resignation Over Student Protests and Paper Leaks

New Delhi | Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today strongly criticised the Central Government over the country’s education system, examination paper leaks and the treatment of students during protests. Addressing a special press briefing at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi said students have every right to raise their voices for their future and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Rahul Gandhi said the Opposition had first approached the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and requested a discussion in Parliament on the issues affecting students. According to him, the Speaker assured that the matter would be discussed with the government, but no action was taken. Rahul Gandhi said this forced the Opposition to intensify its protest. He demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, strict action against those who allegedly assaulted and insulted protesting students and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the treatment given to them.

Rahul Gandhi questioned why peaceful students were being stopped and why security forces were being used against them. He said students are not committing any crime but are only demanding a fair and transparent education system. He said many students face immense mental stress while preparing for examinations, and in several cases, students have even died by suicide after repeated paper leaks and uncertainty.

Referring to the education system, Rahul Gandhi alleged that it is “rigged” and claimed that there have been 152 examination paper leaks, affecting 7.5 crore students, while there have been no convictions in such cases. He said these issues have forced lakhs of students across the country to come out on the streets in protest.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Modi Government was in a state of panic and said the government’s response to student protests reflected a psychological collapse. He said it was his duty as the Leader of the Opposition to raise the voices of students, youth and farmers and bring public concerns before the nation.

He also criticised the rising cost of education and competitive examinations. Rahul Gandhi claimed that Indian families together spend around Rs. 1.32 lakh crore every year on NEET-related expenses, which he said is almost equal to the Union Government’s Rs. 1.4 lakh crore education budget. He alleged that the high cost of education places an unbearable financial burden on families and described it as one of the major reasons behind the nationwide student protests.

Speaking about employment opportunities, Rahul Gandhi said young people are facing a difficult future even after completing their education. He claimed that manufacturing opportunities are shrinking, entrepreneurship is becoming difficult, corporate jobs are being affected by artificial intelligence, and public sector jobs are reducing due to privatisation. As a result, he said, government jobs remain the only option for many young people, making a fair recruitment system even more important.

Recalling the recent protest, Rahul Gandhi claimed that even while police personnel were taking him away, some of them quietly expressed dissatisfaction with the present government. However, he said the focus should not be on what happened to him personally but on the injustice faced by students, the repeated paper leaks, the failures in the education system and the heavy price that young people and their families are being forced to pay.
