New Delhi: Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, delivered a powerful speech in the Lok Sabha, paying tribute to the soldiers martyred in the security of the parliament. She highlighted the ancient Indian tradition of dialogue and debate, which is reflected in various religious and philosophical texts, including the Vedas and Upanishads.

Priyanka emphasized that this tradition was central to India’s freedom struggle, which was rooted in non-violence and truth. She noted that farmers, laborers and intellectuals united in this democratic battle, which eventually gave rise to the Indian Constitution. She described the Constitution as a flame of justice, hope, expression and aspiration that burns in the heart of every Indian, empowering them to seek justice and voice their rights.

Sharing a poignant story, Priyanka Gandhi  recounted her visit to a rape victim’s family in Unnao. Despite facing severe challenges, the victim persisted in her fight for justice, drawing strength from the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Priyanka asserted that the Constitution serves as a protective shield for the citizens, safeguarding justice, unity and freedom of expression.

Priyanka Gandhi highlighted the importance of the Constitution’s promise of social, economic and political justice. She warned against the government’s efforts to weaken reservations through lateral entry and privatization, and emphasized the need for a caste census to ensure equitable policy-making.

She also condemned the government’s actions favoring a single individual, pointing out the increasing economic inequality in the country. Priyanka stressed that the public sees the government as serving the interests of a few, rather than protecting the rights of all citizens.

In her powerful speech, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called on the government to protect the constitution and address the current issues facing the nation. She emphasized the need for accountability, justice and equality, urging the ruling party to fulfill its responsibilities to the people of India.
