Prime Minister Narendra Modi Condoles Ahmedabad Air Tragedy Victims, Pays Tribute to Vijay Rupani, Meets Survivors and Emergency Teams

Ahmedabad | Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed deep sorrow over the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing many passengers and crew on board.

PM Modi visited the crash site in Ahmedabad to assess the situation. He met officials, rescue teams, and emergency personnel who have been working day and night since the incident. The Prime Minister praised their efforts and thanked them for their commitment.

In posts on social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi wrote:

> “We are all devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families. We understand their pain and also know that the void left behind will be felt for years to come. Om Shanti.”

> “Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy.”

PM Modi also met some of the injured victims of the crash, including the lone survivor. He assured them that the nation stands with them in this painful time and wished them a speedy recovery.

Later, PM Modi chaired a high-level review meeting at Ahmedabad Airport with senior officials to take stock of the relief and rescue operations.

The nation was also shocked to learn that former Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani was among those who lost their lives in the crash. Remembering his long association with Rupani, PM Narendra Modi shared few pictures on X and wrote :

> “Met the family of Shri Vijaybhai Rupani Ji. It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I’ve known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder, including during some of the most challenging times. Vijaybhai was humble and hardworking, firmly committed to the Party’s ideology. Rising up the ranks, he held various responsibilities in the Organisation and went on to serve diligently as Gujarat’s Chief Minister.”

In his another post on X, PM Modi said :

> “In every role assigned, he distinguished himself, be it in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, as Rajya Sabha MP, as Gujarat BJP President and as Cabinet Minister in the state government.”

> “Vijaybhai and I also worked extensively when he was Gujarat CM. He ushered in many measures that enhanced Gujarat’s growth trajectory, particularly in boosting ‘Ease of Living.’ Will always cherish the interactions we had. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
