Prime Minister extends Diwali greetings to the nation, praises the valour of India’s defence forces and the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat

New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his warm greetings to the people of India on the occasion of Diwali. In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said, “Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us.”

Continuing his tradition of celebrating Diwali with the armed forces, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked this year’s festival on board the INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier.

Addressing the Navy personnel, the Prime Minister said that it was a remarkable day, a remarkable moment and a remarkable sight – with the vast ocean on one side and the immense strength of India’s brave soldiers on the other. He compared the sunlight sparkling on the sea to the lamps lit by the courageous soldiers during Diwali, calling it a divine garland of lights.

PM Modi shared that spending the night aboard INS Vikrant and witnessing the sunrise over the sea made this Diwali very special and unforgettable. From the deck of the warship, he extended heartfelt Diwali greetings to all 140 crore citizens of the country.

Highlighting the pride of India’s naval strength, the Prime Minister said that ‘INS Vikrant is not just a warship but a testimony to 21st-century India’s hard work, talent, impact, and commitment’. He added that it stands as a powerful symbol of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Made in India.

During his address, PM Modi praised the extraordinary coordination among the three services — the Army, Navy and Air Force – which led to Pakistan’s surrender during Operation Sindoor. He also emphasized that in the past decade, India’s defence forces have made significant progress towards self-reliance.

“Our goal is to make India one of the world’s top defence exporters,” the Prime Minister declared, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening indigenous defence production.

PM Modi also lauded the Indian Navy as the guardian of the Indian Ocean and appreciated the dedication and courage of India’s security forces. “Thanks to the valour and determination of our security forces, the nation has achieved a significant milestone – we are eliminating Maoist terrorism,” he said.
