Kolkata | Today morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga from the historic Red Road in Kolkata, West Bengal. Thousands of people from different walks of life participated in the grand programme, highlighting the growing importance of Yoga in maintaining a healthy and balanced life.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasising the role of Yoga in keeping people fit and healthy at every stage of life.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said that Yoga connects people and brings humanity together. He stated that when Yoga becomes a way of life, it becomes the foundation of human unity. He said Yoga helps make the body flexible, keeps energy levels high and teaches the art of living a balanced life. He further noted that Yoga guides people from mental well-being to physical well-being.

While concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi said that a healthy society forms the foundation of a stronger, more prosperous and confident nation. Wishing good health and happiness to everyone, he invoked the ancient prayer, “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah” (May all be happy, may all be free from illness).
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Kolkata for hosting this year’s Yoga Day celebrations. He also appreciated the cleanliness drives carried out across the city in the run-up to the event, saying that the people of Kolkata had set an inspiring example of responsible citizenship.
