PM Modi Meets Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand; Both Nations Agree on Ambitious Roadmap for Stronger Ties

New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ms. Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, in New Delhi yesterday the 13th October 2025. The Prime Minister warmly welcomed the Canadian Foreign Minister and said that her visit would help give new momentum to the growing India–Canada partnership.
Prime Minister Modi recalled his visit to Canada in June this year during the G7 Summit, where he had a productive meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between the two countries in trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people relations.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his warm wishes to Prime Minister Mark Carney and said he looked forward to their future meetings.

In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Welcomed Canada’s Foreign Minister, Ms. Anita Anand. Discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, energy, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges for mutual growth and prosperity.”
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, in her message on X, said that Canada and India have agreed on an “ambitious roadmap to strengthen ties.” She also mentioned her meeting with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal, where both discussed fostering a balanced and forward-looking economic relationship as part of the renewed Canada–India partnership.
Ms. Anand expressed that Canada remains committed to creating new opportunities for businesses and workers in both countries. She also appreciated the staff at the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi for their dedication and hard work in strengthening the Canada–India partnership every day.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said in his post that he was delighted to welcome Minister Anita Anand at Vanijya Bhawan. He added that their discussions focused on exploring cooperation in energy, technology, and food security. He reiterated India’s readiness to reinvigorate mutually beneficial trade and investment ties based on trust and respect.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar also met the visiting Canadian Minister. In his message on X, Dr. Jaishankar said, “Delighted to welcome FM Anita Anand of Canada in New Delhi. Had constructive discussions to restore and reinvigorate mechanisms necessary to advance our partnership. We agreed on an ambitious cooperation roadmap to rebuild our ties and deliver on the expectations of our leaders and people.”
