New Delhi | A massive protest was held at Jantar Mantar under the leadership of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board against the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024. Many Muslim organizations, political leaders and a large number of people participated in the demonstration.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), strongly criticized the Modi government. He said that the Congress party firmly believes that the Narendra Modi-led government is continuously attacking the Indian Constitution. He stated that the government had even claimed they would change the Constitution if they secured over 400 seats in the 2024 parliament elections. However, due to India’s diverse social fabric, they could not achieve such numbers. Instead, they are now targeting specific constitutional provisions that ensure equality for people of all religions.

Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain pointed out that the government first introduced the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Later, through its supporters, it launched a campaign against the Places of Worship Act. Now, the Waqf Amendment Bill has been brought forward, which aims to weaken the rights given to minorities. He accused the government of pushing for majoritarian rule by introducing such laws.

He further conveyed the message of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that whenever this bill is reintroduced in Parliament, Congress will strongly oppose it. He assured that the party will stand against each provision of the bill and will not leave the House until every aspect of it is challenged.

Dr. Naseer Hussain emphasized that the Congress party played a crucial role in drafting the Constitution and ensuring equal rights for all. Therefore, protecting the Constitution, especially the provisions that guarantee equality, is their responsibility. He affirmed that when the bill is presented in Parliament, all parties of the INDIA Alliance will stand united against it and will continue to fight till the end to safeguard the rights of minorities in India.
