Bengaluru : Ramesh Babu, Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council and Chairman of the KPCC Media and Communication Department, has written a strong letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing deep concern over the recent derogatory and caste-based remarks made by a self-proclaimed ‘Sanatani’ advocate against the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India and the Supreme Court.

In his petition, Ramesh Babu described the incident as a “blatant casteist attack made in the name of Sanatana Dharma”, saying it is not just a personal outburst but an attempt to insult and intimidate the judiciary, which is the backbone of India’s democracy.

He stated that the Supreme Court stands as the guardian of the Constitution and the protector of citizens’ rights. Any attempt to communalize or threaten the judiciary, he said, is a contempt of court and a serious danger to national unity.

Ramesh Babu criticized the Prime Minister for limiting his response to mere statements, instead of taking strong and concrete action. “As the head of the government, the Prime Minister cannot absolve himself by giving verbal condemnation,” he said, urging decisive steps to protect the dignity of the judiciary.

In his letter, he made several key demands:

Judicial Inquiry : To order a judicial inquiry led by a sitting or retired Supreme Court Judge to investigate the motives and background of the ‘Sanatani’ advocate’s attack.

Immediate Action: To direct the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police to arrest and prosecute the advocate under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Contempt of Courts Act.

Public Assurance : To issue a clear statement from the Government of India reaffirming its faith in the judiciary and commitment to secular and democratic values.

Ban on Religious Misuse : To prohibit the misuse of religious identity or ideology for threatening constitutional institutions.

Ramesh Babu warned that silence or inaction from the Government could set a dangerous precedent, emboldening ideological groups to target the judiciary. He also highlighted that “Sanatanis are not tolerating Dalits to occupy the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court,” which he termed as deeply disturbing and unacceptable in a democratic country.

He concluded by urging the Prime Minister to act swiftly to uphold constitutional decorum, discipline, and institutional integrity. “The Government must ensure justice and reaffirm the supremacy of the Constitution above all religious or sectarian considerations,” he wrote.

This letter from Ramesh Babu has drawn wide attention in political and legal circles, as it raises serious concerns about maintaining the dignity and independence of the judiciary. His call for a judicial inquiry and immediate government action has sparked a larger debate on protecting constitutional institutions from religious or ideological interference.
