Karnataka Creates Two World Records in Public Transport: Ramalinga Reddy Calls It a Proud Moment for the State

Bengaluru | Karnataka has achieved two proud milestones on the global stage, bringing great recognition to the state’s public transport system. The London Book of World Records (United Kingdom) has honoured Karnataka with two prestigious world records for outstanding achievements under the Transport Department.

The first certificate has been awarded to KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, KKRTC and Sri Ramalinga Reddy, Hon’ble Transport Minister, Government of Karnataka for achieving the “Highest Number of Women Free Travel Tickets Availed in Karnataka”.

A remarkable total of 564.10 crore free bus rides have been availed by women under the ‘Shakti Scheme’, launched on June 11, 2023, to promote women’s empowerment. This extraordinary milestone was recorded on 30th September 2025 in Bengaluru, marking a historic step towards gender equality and social welfare.

The second world record has been presented to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) headed by Akram Pasha, IAS, Managing Director, for being the “Most Award-Winning Road Transport Corporation – KSRTC Karnataka”. The KSRTC has received an impressive total of 464 national and international awards between 1997 and October 3, 2025, in recognition of its excellence, innovation, and public service commitment.

Speaking on this remarkable achievement, Karnataka Transport Minister Sri Ramalinga Reddy said these world records are a matter of pride for the entire state and reflect the government’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment and quality public transport. He congratulated all officers and staff of KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC for their dedicated service and successful implementation of the Shakti Scheme.

Ramalinga Reddy further said that Karnataka will continue to introduce people-friendly and innovative initiatives to make public transport more efficient, inclusive, and environment-friendly.

This global recognition by the London Book of World Records highlights Karnataka’s leadership in public transport reforms and its commitment to inclusive development. The achievements under the Transport Department not only showcase efficient governance but also reflect how people-centric initiatives like the Shakti Scheme are transforming lives and setting new benchmarks for other states to follow.
