Ranchi | A delegation from the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) led by its President, Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, met with Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren. After the meeting, the AIMPLB released a statement on their social media platform, X, highlighting the Chief Minister’s opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
“We Will Never Support Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024”: Hemant Soren
Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, assured the AIMPLB delegation that he would not support the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, if it is presented in Parliament. He emphasized his commitment to opposing the bill, which he believes undermines the Waqf Act and threatens Waqf properties.
The AIMPLB delegation, including its President Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, explained their concerns about the amendment bill. They argued that the bill weakens the Waqf Act and facilitates the usurpation of Waqf properties. Moulana Rahmani also stated that this act of the central government is against the Constitution, democratic values, federalism and also against the plural structure of the country.
Moulana Mohd. Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, General Secretary of the AIMPLB, introduced the board members to the Chief Minister and detailed various provisions of the bill. Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas, an executive member of the board, reiterated their stance and appealed to the Chief Minister, saying, “As a voice for the tribals and marginalized sections, we expect you to support us in our fight against the suppression of minorities.”
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, after listening patiently, assured the delegation of his support. He said, “I have always stood by the just issues of Muslims and will continue to do so. I will take all necessary efforts to ensure this malicious bill does not get passed in Parliament. Tomorrow, we will pass a resolution in our cabinet against the bill.”
The delegation submitted a brief note on the critical study of the bill’s provisions to the Chief Minister and thanked him for his patient listening. Hafizul Hasan Ansari, Minister of Minority Affairs, accompanied the Chief Minister during the discussion.
The AIMPLB delegation included Moulana Mohd. Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi (General Secretary), Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas (spokesperson), and other board members from Jharkhand, including Moulana Mohd Yaseen Qasmi, Moulana Mufti Nazar Tauheed and renowned surgeon Dr. Majid Alam.
Statement issued by Dr. M Vaqar Uddin Latifi, Office Secretary, AIMPLB.
