Bengaluru | Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has created a historic moment today by becoming the longest-serving Chief Minister of the State. With a total of 7 years and 240 days in office, he has officially crossed the record earlier held by former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs, the famous reformer of the 1970s.
On January 6, 2026, Siddaramaiah completed 2,792 days as Chief Minister, equalling the tenure of Devaraj Urs. Today, on January 7, he has moved ahead to become the longest-serving CM in Karnataka’s political history.
Siddaramaiah’s first term lasted 1,829 days, from May 13, 2013, to May 15, 2018. His second term began on May 20, 2023 and so far he has completed 963 days in office.
Born on August 12, 1948, in Mysuru district, Siddaramaiah emerged as a prominent Kuruba leader. His ability to bring together different communities under the AHINDA platform has been a major strength in his political journey.
Devaraj Urs had served as Chief Minister in two terms between 1972–77 and 1978–80.
During his ongoing second term, Siddaramaiah has focused on strengthening welfare schemes, maintaining financial discipline and addressing important socio-economic issues. His government has also highlighted progress in implementing several key promises made during the elections.
Despite facing political pressure at times, Siddaramaiah has remained firm within the Congress party, always stressing the importance of unity and collective decision-making. He continues to be a popular leader among minority communities in the state.
Siddaramaiah is widely known for his inclusive, people-centric and practical leadership style. His political journey – from a humble village in Mysuru to the highest office in Karnataka – continues to inspire millions who see him as a symbol of hope, equality and empowerment.
