New Delhi : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has called upon citizens across the nation to exercise their right to vote in large numbers as the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 progresses. With a voter turnout of 66.95% recorded in the first four phases, approximately 451 million individuals have already cast their ballots, demonstrating a robust participation in the democratic process.
In a bid to enhance voter engagement, the ECI has introduced a series of initiatives aimed at motivating and facilitating voters during the ongoing electoral process. Notably, the Commission has enlisted the support of public and private organizations as well as prominent personalities, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is serving as the ECI National Icon. Tendulkar, along with other influencers and celebrities, is actively involved in encouraging voters to fulfill their civic duty.
Under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Shri Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, the ECI has directed Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of states scheduled for polling in the upcoming phases to intensify efforts in distributing voter information slips and conducting outreach activities. This concerted effort aims to ensure that every eligible voter is well-informed and motivated to participate in the electoral process.
Expressing optimism about the significance of a high voter turnout, Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of partnership and collaboration in driving voter awareness. He underscored that a strong voter turnout not only strengthens Indian democracy but also sends a powerful message to the global community about the vibrancy of India’s democratic ethos.
Shri Rajiv Kumar urged all eligible voters to recognize the voting day as a moment of pride and participation in the festival of democracy. Emphasizing that voting is not merely a holiday but a solemn responsibility, he called upon citizens to seize the opportunity to shape the future of the nation through their active engagement in the electoral process.
