New Delhi | The Opposition’s INDIA bloc has filed a no-confidence motion against Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday. This action came shortly after both houses of Parliament descended into disarray, leading to their adjournment for the day.
While speaking to media, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha expressed serious concerns about the current state of democracy in the Rajya Sabha. He stated that the voices of the opposition were consistently being suppressed. This persistent issue led the opposition to propose a no-confidence motion against the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Dr. Hussain alleged that Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankar, has been acting in a biased manner, favoring the government. He emphasized that this proposal for a no-confidence motion was a necessary step due to the way opposition leaders were being treated. They were not being allowed to speak, and their voices were being stifled, forcing them to take this drastic action.

“This is the first time in history that a no-confidence motion has been brought against the Chairman in Rajya Sabha. When the Chairman becomes a spokesperson for a political party and starts working according to the government’s wishes, we are compelled to take such a significant step,” Dr. Hussain remarked.
Dr. Hussain stated that the opposition felt it was necessary to take a big step because of the way the Chairman was running the house and not allowing the opposition to speak.
While speaking to B R Abdul Wajid in New Delhi, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain said that the leader of the house is responsible for taking everyone along, but when the leader becomes a government spokesperson, who will listen to the opposition’s voice? Dr. Hussain concluded by saying that the opposition is determined to keep democracy alive and ensure that their voices are heard in the Rajya Sabha.
