New Delhi | Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, a prominent Member of Parliament, CWC Member and National Spokesperson for the All India Congress Committee, recently addressed the media regarding the controversial proposal of “One Nation, One Election.” He expressed strong opposition to the idea, labeling it as impractical and a distraction from pressing national issues.

Naseer Hussain stated that the current political climate is being manipulated to divert attention from criticisms directed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He emphasized that the proposal is not feasible for a diverse and multi-party democracy like India. According to him, if a government falls due to a fractured mandate or other issues, it would be unrealistic to expect the central government to rule for an extended period without elections.

Naseer Hussain raised concerns about the implications of such a policy on opposition governments, suggesting that it could lead to systematic dismantling of these administrations. Naseer Hussain argued that the focus should instead be on improving the democratic process by engaging all political parties in discussions about electoral reforms, free and fair elections and addressing issues like technology misuse in voting systems.

Hussain concluded by asserting that “One Nation, One Election” is ultimately an impractical concept that would be difficult to implement effectively. He called for preserving India’s democratic setup as it currently stands and urged for meaningful reforms that involve collaboration among all political factions.
