“Do Not Bring Politics Into This Tragedy,” Says Sharadchandra Pawar on Ajit Pawar’s Death in a Plane Crash

Baramati | Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar died today morning after a chartered plane crashed in Baramati. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the plane, which was flying from Mumbai, crash-landed at around 8:45 a.m. Five people, including the crew, were killed in the tragic accident.
Ajit Pawar was travelling to attend a Zilla Parishad election rally when the accident took place. He was the longest-serving Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and had held the post six times under different governments. His sudden death has shocked the entire state.
According to sources, the last rites of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will be held with full state honours on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati, Pune.
The Maharashtra government has announced a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect to the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Reacting to the tragic incident, Sharadchandra Pawar, President of the Nationalist Congress Party, said that Ajit Pawar’s untimely death is a massive shock to Maharashtra. He said the state has lost a capable and decisive leader. He appealed to everyone not to give any political colour to the incident and clarified that the plane crash was purely an accident.

In his message to media, President of Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar said that, “Ajit Pawar’s untimely death is a massive shock to Maharashtra. The state has today lost a capable and decisive leader. The loss that has occurred cannot be compensated, but not everything is in our hands. I wasn’t planning to come before the media today, but I learned that some media outlets have taken a stance from Kolkata suggesting that there is some politics behind this accident. But there is no politics in this; it is purely an accident. The agony of this death is felt by Maharashtra, by all of us. Please do not bring politics into this. That’s all I have to say.” Sharad Pawar said in his message.
The sudden and tragic death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has left Maharashtra in deep shock and grief. Leaders across parties, party workers and the general public have expressed their condolences, remembering him as a strong administrator and mass leader. As the state observes mourning, Maharashtra bids a tearful farewell to one of its most influential political leaders.
