New Delhi | The Enforcement Directorate has filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others in the National Herald money laundering case. In the ED chargesheet, Sonia Gandhi has been named accused no 1 and Rahul Gandhi as accused no 2. A special court will decide on taking cognisance of the chargesheet on April 25.

Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has issued a strong statement on social media, defending Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing National Herald case. He accused the BJP and Modi Government of spreading false charges and using government agencies for political revenge.

Surjewala explained the entire history of the National Herald newspaper. He said it was started in 1937 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru during the freedom struggle. The owning company, Associated Journals Limited (AJL), was formed by Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and other freedom fighters. The newspaper gave voice to India’s freedom fighters and was banned by the British during the Quit India Movement from 1942 to 1945.

After independence, Congress supported the newspaper by giving loans of about Rs. 90 crore for paying staff salaries, taxes and dues. Since National Herald did not make profits, the Congress helped it financially as it considered it their responsibility to support the legacy of the freedom movement.

Later, a not-for-profit company named Young India Limited was formed. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Oscar Fernandes and Motilal Vora became shareholders. This company was created to take care of the outstanding loan of Rs. 90 crore by taking over the shares of AJL. Surjewala clearly said that Young India Limited cannot earn profit, pay salary or sell any assets.

Randeep Singh Surjewala asked some direct questions in his social media message :

– Did Young India buy any property? – No

– Was any property transferred to Sonia or Rahul Gandhi? – No

– Was any money taken from AJL? – No

– Who owns the property? – AJL, not Young India

Surjewala said that in 2012, Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint with the Election Commission, which was rejected. Later, he approached the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Even ED rejected it in 2015. But suddenly, the ED Director was changed, and the case was reopened, leading to what Surjewala calls a “fake chargesheet.”

Surjewala in his statement on social media said that :

“Our newspaper was born in the freedom struggle. Congress gave the loan. The property was not sold. No money was taken. So, where is the crime?”

He blamed the Modi government for filing false cases because Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi raise the voice of the people. He ended by saying: “We will not be afraid. We will not bow down. We will fight with courage.”

In conclusion, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has strongly denied all the allegations in the National Herald case. He said that there was no profit, no money transaction and no property transfer. The case, he claimed, is part of a political conspiracy to target Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Congress leaders are not afraid of such false cases and will continue to fight for truth and justice with full courage.
