New Delhi | In his address, AICC President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the pivotal role of women in the country, highlighting that they constitute the majority of the population. However, he expressed regret over the lack of significant progress in addressing their issues over the past decade. Kharge attributed this stagnation to the Modi government’s policies, which, according to him, have exacerbated the challenges faced by women.
Kharge criticized the Modi government’s approach, stating that any work done in the past years seemed to be motivated solely by political gain and the pursuit of securing votes from women. He pointed out several critical areas such as women’s reservation, rising inflation, record unemployment and increasing crimes, where the impact is disproportionately felt by women. Kharge asserted that the Modi government has failed comprehensively in addressing these pressing issues.
In response to these shortcomings, the Congress party announced the “Women’s Justice Guarantee,” aimed at setting a new agenda for women’s empowerment in the country. The initiative comprises five promises designed to uplift women across various spheres of life.
The first promise, dubbed the “Mahalakshmi Guarantee,” pledges to provide annual support of one lakh rupees to one woman from every impoverished family. This financial assistance aims to alleviate the economic burdens faced by women from marginalized backgrounds.
Under the “Half Population Full Rights” promise, women will receive half of the benefits offered in the new schemes introduced by the central government. This commitment seeks to ensure equitable access to government initiatives and resources for women across the nation.
The third promise, “Honouring Shakti – Respect for Power,” entails doubling the contribution of the central government in the monthly remuneration of Anganwadi, Asha and Midday Meal workers. This measure aims to recognize and enhance the vital roles played by women in these essential services.
“Rights Friendship,” the fourth promise, entails appointing women as para-legal or legal aids in every Panchayat to raise awareness about their rights and provide necessary assistance. This initiative aims to empower women with legal knowledge and support at the grassroots level.
Lastly, the “Savitri Bai Phule Hostel” promise involves the establishment of hostels for working women in every district headquarters across the country, with the aim of doubling their numbers nationwide. These hostels will provide safe and conducive living environments for women pursuing various occupations.
Kharge emphasized that these promises are not hollow assurances but concrete commitments rooted in the Congress party’s longstanding dedication to fulfilling its manifesto pledges. He highlighted the party’s track record of delivering on its promises since 1926 and expressed gratitude for the support received from the public. Kharge concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to safeguarding democracy and the constitution, thanking everyone for their continued blessings and support.
