Congress Leaders Express Grief Over Ahmedabad Plane Crash Tragedy

Ahmedabad | June 12, 2025 : After the tragic crash of Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (Flight No. AI 171) shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, many top Congress leaders expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
The aircraft was heading to London and tragically fell into the Meghani area of the city. On board were 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese citizens, and 1 Canadian national. Several passengers are feared dead in this heart-breaking incident.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge posted on X (formerly Twitter):
> “Absolutely shocked to know about the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat where several passengers and crew members were on board.
> It’s heart-wrenching to see the horrific visuals.
> Our heartfelt sympathies, thoughts and prayers with the families of the passengers, pilot and the crew.
> I urge Congress leaders and workers to provide all assistance and support to the victims and their loved ones.”
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi said:
> “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts are with the families of the passengers and the crew. The visuals are most heart-wrenching. The entire country is overtaken by grief and is praying.”
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi also shared his concern and grief:
> “The Ahmedabad Air India crash is heartbreaking.
> The pain and anxiety the families of the passengers and crew must be feeling is unimaginable. My thoughts are with each one of them in this incredibly difficult moment.
> Urgent rescue and relief efforts by the administration are critical – every life matters, every second counts.
> Congress workers must do everything they can to help on the ground.”
Congress General Secretary Smt Priyanka Gandhi also shared her concern and grief :
>My heart goes out to the families of the passengers and crew on board the Air India flight. The whole nation is hoping against hope that your loved ones survive this horrifying crash. May God be with all of you.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal in his post on X, said that :
> “The Air India Ahmedabad plane crash is a devastating tragedy that has shocked the nation. No words are enough to describe the pain.
> Our sincere condolences to the families of the hundreds of victims of this accident.
> All PCCs and affiliated organisations are instructed to cancel all organisation-related events tomorrow as a mark of respect to the victims of this tragedy.”
Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Siddaramaiah, shared his condolences and also demanded justice for the victims:
> “I am deeply saddened to hear of the deaths due to the plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. May the departed souls rest in peace.
> I pray that their families and loved ones find the strength to bear this immense grief.
> I wish a speedy recovery to all the injured, including students who are undergoing treatment after being hurt in this tragic incident.
> It is truly heartbreaking to witness the pain and suffering of those who have lost their loved ones. In this painful hour, the entire nation stands with them.
> The central government must prioritize providing appropriate compensation to the families of the deceased, conduct a high-level investigation to determine the cause of the incident, and take all necessary steps to ensure such tragedies never happen again.
> Once again, my heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the plane tragedy.”
Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar also said:
> “Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic accident of the Ahmedabad-London flight during take off in Ahmedabad.
> My deepest condolences to everyone affected, especially the families enduring this unimaginable loss.
> My thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted on the ground during this difficult time.
> Wishing for everyone’s safety and a swift emergency response.”
The tragic crash has shaken the entire country. Leaders from across the political spectrum are united in grief and are urging for quick rescue operations, proper investigation, and complete support to the affected families. As the rescue and relief work continues, the nation prays for the souls of the departed and strength for their families.
