New Delhi | Atishi Singh has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. While addressing Media, she expressed deep gratitude to her mentor, Arvind Kejriwal, for entrusting her with such a significant responsibility.
“I want to thank my leader, my mentor and my elder brother Arvind Kejriwal Ji for giving me this huge responsibility and trusting me with it. Only in the Aam Aadmi Party can a first-time politician like me become the Chief Minister. I come from an ordinary family and, in any other party, I might not even have received a ticket to contest elections. But Arvind Kejriwal Ji believed in me, made me an MLA, a minister and now has given me the responsibility to be the Chief Minister,” Atishi said.
She conveyed mixed emotions, expressing both happiness for her new role and sadness over Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. “As much joy as I feel today, I also feel equally sad because Delhi’s popular CM Arvind Kejriwal Ji is resigning today. On behalf of all Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and the 2 crore people of Delhi, I want to say that there is only one CM of Delhi, and that is Arvind Kejriwal Ji,” she added.

Atishi criticized the BJP for continuously troubling Arvind Kejriwal over the past two years. She highlighted that despite being an honest man who left his IRS Commissioner job to enter politics, Kejriwal faced false allegations of corruption, fake cases and imprisonment for six months. “Despite the Supreme Court granting him bail, Kejriwal Ji did something unprecedented by insisting that he would only return to the CM’s post if the people of Delhi wanted him back,” she remarked.
She praised Kejriwal for his unique sacrifice and commitment to public service, emphasizing that no leader in the history of democracy has made such a sacrifice. Atishi highlighted the reasons why the people of Delhi want Kejriwal back as their CM, citing his initiatives for free electricity, improved government schools, free healthcare, mohalla clinics, free bus rides for women and pilgrimage schemes for the elderly.
“We all will work with the sole aim of bringing Arvind Kejriwal Ji back as the CM of Delhi,” Atishi declared.
She concluded her address by requesting people not to congratulate her or garland her, stating that it is a moment of sorrow for all of us due to Kejriwal’s resignation.
