New Delhi | The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced the launch of a nationwide peaceful movement called ‘Waqf Bachao Muhim’ (Save Waqf Campaign). This campaign is being started to protest against the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, which AIMPLB and several Muslim organisations have strongly opposed since the beginning.

According to a statement shared on social media by AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Mohammad Fazlurrahim Mujaddidi Sahab, the Board has called this new law unconstitutional and against Islamic principles. He said the central government wants to take full control of Waqf properties through this new law, which could harm Muslim endowments (auqaf) across the country.

Campaign Period and Legal Steps

As per the statement by the General Secretary of AIMPLB, The ‘Waqf Bachao Muhim’ will run from 11 April 2025 to 7 July 2025 as the first phase. AIMPLB has already challenged the law in the Supreme Court and plans to continue this movement until the government withdraws the amendments and restores the original law.

Peaceful and Lawful Protest

Maulana Mujaddidi Sahab said that the protest will be carried out peacefully and within legal limits. The campaign will include people from all communities, including civil society members. He compared this movement to the historic Shah Bano agitation of 1985 and said the goal is to spread awareness in every state, city, district and village.

He urged the public to maintain discipline and consistency throughout the campaign to fight against the misinformation spread by the government and some elements supporting the amendments.

Roadmap of the Movement

The campaign will include several important activities:

“Lights Out Protest” on 30 April at 9 PM – People are requested to switch off their home, office and factory lights for half an hour as a silent protest.

Press Conferences in 50 Cities – Joint press meets will be held in major cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and others.

Round Table Meetings – Interactive discussions will be organised with fellow citizens in major cities.

Media Outreach – Full use of print, electronic and social media (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and X) will be made. A hashtag campaign will also be launched.

Involvement of Women – Special efforts will be made to include women in all programs, and women’s wings will conduct press meets where needed.

Grand Public Meeting at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi – A mass gathering will be organised at the end of the first phase in Delhi to show unity and strength.

AIMPLB has appealed to all justice-loving citizens, civil society groups and religious communities to join the movement and support the cause to save Waqf properties from unconstitutional interference.
