Panaji: Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal received a warm welcome from Congress leaders and party workers on his arrival in Goa to participate in the Goy Rakhonn Yatra.

Addressing the gathering, Venugopal said the Yatra was aimed at protecting Goa from what he described as the “misrule” of the BJP government. He said the main purpose of the Yatra was to listen to the people of Goa, understand their concerns and take their views and ideas forward for the future of the state.

Venugopal alleged that the Goa government was facing serious corruption-related issues. He also accused the BJP of putting Goa’s land, environment and natural beauty at risk.

He said Goa is known across the world for its natural beauty and environment and alleged that the BJP wanted to “sell Goa”. The Congress leader said issues related to land and protection of Goa’s identity would be raised during the Yatra.

Venugopal also raised the issue of unemployment among the youth. He alleged that young people in Goa were facing difficulties in finding jobs and claimed that money was being demanded from people in exchange for employment.

He said the government should focus on creating more employment opportunities for the younger generation and providing quality education to students.

“Our aim is to remove the BJP government from Goa and protect the people of Goa,” Venugopal said.

The Goy Rakhonn Yatra is scheduled to travel across all 40 Assembly constituencies of Goa over 27 days. The Congress has said that the campaign will focus on issues concerning Goa’s land, identity, environment, unemployment and other concerns raised by people.

Venugopal also raised serious allegations concerning the Election Commission and the electoral rolls.

He claimed that two Election Commissioners had written 10 letters to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, asking him not to take steps that could affect democracy and the voters’ list.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s earlier criticism of the Chief Election Commissioner, Venugopal said that the Opposition had been raising questions about the functioning of the Election Commission.

He further alleged that the Election Commission and the IT Department in Delhi had control over the voters’ list and claimed that names could be added or removed according to their wishes.

Venugopal also alleged that there was a “criminal conspiracy” involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to dismantle the election system. These are allegations made by Venugopal and the Congress, and they have not been established as facts.

He demanded the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that his actions were damaging democratic institutions.

Venugopal said Goa has a long tradition of democratic values and expressed confidence that the people of the state would continue to support democratic principles.

The Congress has launched the Goy Rakhonn Yatra as a statewide campaign ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. The party plans to interact with people across the state and raise issues concerning Goa’s future.
