Rahul Gandhi said education is the right of every student, from kindergarten and school education to mid-day meals, college, university and employment. He said the government has the responsibility to ensure that this entire chain is properly maintained.

He claimed that one lakh government schools have been closed in the country, with 55 per cent of the closures being in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. He also said that only 14 out of 100 children are able to get hostel facilities and alleged that poor infrastructure is putting students at risk.

According to Rahul Gandhi, weakening of education is linked to reduced government spending on the sector. He said that during the UPA government, 4.6 per cent of the budget was spent on education, while the figure has now come down to 2.6 per cent.

He also claimed that 1.5 crore scholarships have been discontinued in the last 10 years and that around 10 lakh teacher posts are lying vacant across the country.

Rahul Gandhi said his aim was to restore the confidence of students in education and the system. He said students should use their curiosity, honesty, compassion, love and affection to take the country forward.
