“We won’t let Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah sleep until they resign,” Rahul Gandhi said. He further claimed that the government had now realised that it could not stop the people of the country from expressing themselves.

Speaking at the gathering, Rahul Gandhi said there was a difference between “order” and “expression”. Referring to the protests at Jantar Mantar, he said students were asked to remain silent and even a grieving mother was told to stay quiet. He alleged that the BJP-RSS wanted to impose its order on the country, while the responsibility of the Congress was to make India express itself and break that order.

Rahul Gandhi said many people were behaving like “cowards” in front of what he described as a “cowardly force”. He said people should not be afraid and compared the present political situation with the struggle against the British Empire. He criticised the BJP leadership and said they had little understanding of India’s philosophy and history.

Commenting on the media, Rahul Gandhi said that some media persons privately tell him that many things happening in the country are not right, but they also have responsibilities towards their families. He said there was also a need for “national spirit” and declared that the people would not allow what he called “a bunch of clowns” to impose their order on the country.

Rahul Gandhi also claimed that he was receiving information from inside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office. He referred to a recent sit-in protest in front of the Prime Minister’s residence and said that a policeman had quietly asked him to get the people away from the place.

Speaking about international affairs, Rahul Gandhi criticised the Modi government’s handling of relations between the United States, Iran, Russia and Pakistan. Referring to the US-Iran conflict, he said “A US-Iran war broke out. In such a scenario, if there had been leadership like Indira Gandhi ji, we would have had the biggest opportunity. Because Iran is our old friend, America and Russia are also our friends, so we could have mediated friendship between them. But Pakistan stepped in and took our place, and Narendra Modi just stood by watching.”

Rahul Gandhi also said that the Congress and the people of India did not have to fit into one particular identity or structure. “We are not people who fit into just one mold; we have thousands of molds,” he said, stressing that India has many different voices, identities and ways of expression.

“Rahul Gandhi’s speech strongly focused on freedom of expression, political resistance, the role of the media, India’s foreign policy and national security. He called upon Congress workers and the people to remain fearless and continue raising their voice on issues concerning the country. ~ News By Dr. B R Abdul Wajid.
