Rahul Gandhi Meets Student Protesters, Alleges Harassment and Demands Accountability

New Delhi | Today, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met a group of student protesters from different states at 10 Janpath, New Delhi, and later addressed the media. He praised the students for peacefully raising their concerns about the education system and alleged that they were being threatened and harassed despite not resorting to violence.
Rahul Gandhi said he was proud of the young protesters for standing against what he described as injustice. He said the students had fought to protect the Constitution and the country’s education system. According to him, the students had done nothing wrong and did not need to apologize to anyone for raising their voices.

Speaking about his interaction with the students, Rahul Gandhi said they shared their experiences of being assaulted, beaten and threatened during the protests. He said that demanding a better education system, an end to examination paper leaks and a secure future for the country’s youth was not a crime. He added that the education system needs reforms and improvement.
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the students were facing harassment, violence and intimidation. He praised their courage in speaking publicly about their experiences and said such fearless young people represent the future of the country.
Referring to the incidents during the student protests, Rahul Gandhi held Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible. He alleged that either the Home Minister was unaware of the violence against the students or had ordered it. He said that in either case, the Home Minister was responsible for what had happened. These are allegations made by Rahul Gandhi, and there has been no official response from the Union Home Minister in the context of these remarks.

During the press briefing, student protester Muskan Sharma alleged that she was beaten by a male Rapid Action Force (RAF) officer while participating in a peaceful protest. She questioned why a male officer allegedly used force against her and demanded an apology from those responsible if such actions had been ordered.

Another student, Farah Naaz, said that she and other students were holding a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20 when, according to her, the police carried out a baton charge. She alleged that the protesters were later taken into custody and called traitors. She said the students would continue to raise their voices for their country and for their rights.

Student protester Nutan Toppo also shared her experience during the briefing. She alleged that she witnessed a pellet gun being aimed towards the protesters. Despite the incident, she said she would continue to stand against injustice whenever given the opportunity.
