Priyanka Gandhi Reviews Development Projects, Tribal Welfare and Public Infrastructure During Wayanad Visit

Wayanad (Keralam) : Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited various parts of Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency and participated in a series of programmes focusing on education, tribal welfare, public infrastructure and development.
Priyanka Gandhi inaugurated a newly constructed railway platform shelter at Thuvvur Railway Station. The shelter was built at a cost of Rs. 28 lakh from the MPLADS fund of the then Wayanad MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The new facility is expected to provide greater comfort and convenience to passengers using the station.

As part of her visit, Priyanka Gandhi flagged off a Rapid Response Team (RRT) vehicle at the Divisional Forest Office in Nilambur to strengthen measures for tackling human-animal conflict. She described the issue as serious and complex and said that coordinated efforts involving the Forest Department and all stakeholders are essential to find a long-term solution. She also highlighted the need for additional equipment and drones to improve the response system.

Then Priyanka Gandhi inaugurated an award ceremony in Nilambur to felicitate tribal students who successfully completed their SSLC and Plus Two examinations. Congratulating the students, she encouraged them to pursue higher education and said that education is the key to empowering tribal youth and creating better opportunities for their future.

Addressing the gathering, Priyanka Gandhi welcomed the Kerala Government’s decision to establish a university dedicated to tribal communities. She expressed hope that the proposed institution would become a centre of excellence for the country. She also stressed the need to preserve and protect the culture, traditions, languages and festivals of tribal communities.

Later, while speaking to the media, she said that several development projects for Wayanad, including a medical college, the proposed tribal university and pending road projects, are being taken forward. She expressed confidence that these projects would progress with the support of the present Kerala Government.

During her tour, she chaired separate review meetings with district-level officials on issues concerning the potter community and tribal welfare. She reviewed the challenges faced by the potter community and discussed measures to improve their livelihood. In another meeting, she reviewed the implementation of tribal welfare programmes and the Forest Rights Act (FRA), stressing the need for effective implementation of welfare schemes and timely delivery of benefits to eligible beneficiaries.
