New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister of India, completing 4,399 days in office and surpassing the previous record of 4,398 days held by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Marking the historic occasion on June 10, 2026, the Union Cabinet passed a resolution describing the achievement as a symbol of India’s democratic values, public trust and people’s participation. The resolution said that the people of the country have given unprecedented support to a leader guided by the principle of “Nation First”.
President of India Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan also extended their heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister. Congratulatory messages poured in from world leaders and top Indian dignitaries.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the Prime Minister and said that his leadership symbolises the journey from resolve to success and from service to good governance. He added that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has set new benchmarks in self-confidence, development and global prestige.
