Bengaluru: KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar was unanimously elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) at a meeting held at Vidhana Soudha today. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed his name, which was seconded by Dr. G. Parameshwar and supported by all Congress MLAs.
AICC General Secretary Organisation K.C. Venugopal announced Shivakumar’s election and said the Congress high command had approved his name for the post. He said the smooth transition of leadership reflected the unity and strength of the Congress party in Karnataka.

Following his election, D.K. Shivakumar passed a resolution appreciating the services of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Congress leaders praised Siddaramaiah’s eight-year tenure, highlighting his contributions to social justice, welfare schemes and development in the state.

Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala congratulated Shivakumar and described him as a dedicated Congress leader committed to the welfare and progress of Karnataka. He also thanked Siddaramaiah for his remarkable service to the state and the party.

D. K. Shivakumar later met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at Lok Bhawan, Bengaluru and staked claim to form the government. The Governor accepted his claim and invited him to take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka along with the team members. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on June 3 at 4.05 pm at Lok Bhawan, Bengaluru.
