The Chairman (Tippu) said that the main aim of the Haj Walkathon is to make Haj pilgrims aware of the importance of walking during the Haj journey and to prepare them physically and mentally for the long distances they will have to walk while performing Haj. Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan (Tippu) informed that the Haj Walkathon was started by the Karnataka State Haj Committee last year and received good response not only in Karnataka but also in other states of the country. Last year it was organised on a limited scale, but this year efforts are being made to conduct the walkathon on a larger scale across the state and involve maximum number of Haj pilgrims.
The Chairman further said that this year Haj pilgrims travelling through private tour operators will also be allowed to participate in the Haj Walkathon after registration. He explained that whether pilgrims travel through the Haj Committee or private operators, they have to walk long distances during Haj rituals, including during stay in Mina, movement from Mina to Arafat, Arafat to Muzdalifah, and return to Mina.
He said that the Haj Walkathon is being organised to provide special guidance and to mentally prepare pilgrims for these challenges. The Chairman expressed hope that a large number of Haj pilgrims will take part in the Haj Walkathon and benefit from the initiative.
