With such initiatives, Rabita Society continues to uplift lives, foster harmony, and serve as a model of community-driven development in Bhatkal.
News in Brief …..
Bhatkal : Rabita Society, Bhatkal, popularly known as Bhatkal Muslim Khaleej Council (BMKC), organised a special programme “Rabita Sauharda Sangama 2025 – Peace, Unity, Harmony” at the historic Maulana Bungalow in Bhatkal city. The event brought together leaders from different communities, government representatives and media persons. Nearly 300 leaders attended the meet, with almost half of them being from the non-Muslim community.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ateequr Rahman Muniri, General Secretary of Rabita Society, recalled the history and achievements of the organisation. He said that over 50 years ago, members of the Bhatkal community started migrating to Gulf countries for employment and business. To stay connected and to work for the betterment of Bhatkal, they began forming organisations.
He explained that in 1991, noted philanthropist Dr. S.M. Syed Khaleelur Rahman along with his colleagues united various organisations from 6 Gulf countries, including UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. This united platform became known as BMKC, which was later registered in India as Rabita Society. Today, the Society functions from its office in Nawait Colony, Bhatkal.
Muniri highlighted that more than 5,000 NRIs from Bhatkal are living in Gulf countries and are sending remittances of over ₹1,000 crore every year, which has played a major role in the region’s growth and prosperity.
He also mentioned that earlier, Rabita Society regularly organised such community get-togethers with the participation of all leaders. However, due to the pandemic and other challenges, the tradition was paused for almost eight years. The revival of “Rabita Sauharda Sangama” marks a fresh beginning.
Emphasising the importance of peace and brotherhood, Muniri said, “Our aim is to involve the younger generation from all communities in such initiatives so that they can carry forward the legacy of unity and harmony. This example of Bhatkal should inspire communities across India to build a shining future for the nation.”
He concluded by saying that these efforts not only strengthen peace and communal harmony in society but also fulfill the dreams of the late leaders who established the organisation with a vision of unity and service.

The event was presided over by Rabita Society President Umar Farooq Musbah, while Convener Qamar Sada proposed the vote of thanks. The gathering saw active participation from Gulf-based Jamaat leaders, social workers, government officers, media persons and representatives of educational institutions, who all praised Rabita Society for promoting peace, unity and social progress.

The “Rabita Sauharda Sangama 2025” not only revived an old tradition of dialogue and togetherness but also showcased Bhatkal’s spirit of communal harmony. With leaders from different faiths, officials, and social organisations coming together on one platform, the event sent out a strong message that unity and mutual respect remain the true strength of Bhatkal and should serve as a model for the rest of the country.
