New Delhi | Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), has raised serious concerns over the Election Commission’s recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, especially in Bihar, West Bengal, and some other states.
Continuing the ongoing protest on this issue, Dr. Hussain submitted a notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, requesting suspension of regular business on July 29 to discuss the matter urgently.
He said that the voter list revision is reportedly excluding many people from marginalised and vulnerable communities. “Despite raising these concerns multiple times with the Election Commission and the government, no proper action has been taken,” he said.
Dr. Hussain added that these exercises are being conducted without transparency, safeguards, or due process, which is very concerning. To ensure the seriousness of the issue is addressed, he requested that the Rajya Sabha suspend the Zero Hour and Question Hour to allow a detailed debate.
Dr. Hussain’s demand highlights growing apprehension among opposition leaders and civil society groups about fair and inclusive electoral practices. As the country moves closer to upcoming elections, ensuring that every eligible citizen—especially from marginalised sections—is included in the voter list has become a matter of national importance.
