Karnataka Mourns the Loss of Former CM S. M. Krishna; D. K. Shivakumar Pays Emotional Tribute

Bengaluru, December 10, 2024: In the early hours of today, Karnataka lost one of its most respected leaders, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna. He passed away at his residence in Bengaluru at the age of 92.

While addressing the media, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President, D. K. Shivakumar, delivered an emotional tribute to the late leader. He highlighted Krishna’s visionary contributions to the state, emphasizing how his efforts have shaped modern Karnataka.

Shivakumar said, “S. M. Krishna is a great visionary. Talking about his relationship and contributions to Karnataka could take hours. One thing is clear: Kengal Hanumanthaiah built Vidhana Soudha and S. M. Krishna built Vikasa Soudha and Udyoga Soudha. The Bangalore International Airport and Namma Metro are among his significant contributions.”

Shivakumar highlighted S. M. Krishna’s role in transforming Karnataka, from introducing the mid-day meal program for students to various other initiatives for the needy, his contributions are unparalleled.”

Reflecting on S. M. Krishna’s impact, D. K. Shivakumar recalled, “Former PM Vajpayee once remarked on how global leaders began recognizing Bangalore as a key international destination because of S. M. Krishna’s efforts. He provided remarkable governance and was highly educated. Karnataka is proud to have had him as a leader. His contributions will never be forgotten. He has left a legacy that we are proud to follow.”

D. K. Shivakumar’s heartfelt words reflect the deep respect and admiration that Karnataka holds for S. M. Krishna, whose visionary leadership and contributions have left an indelible mark on the state.

D. K. Shivakumar said that the government will give full state honors to S. M. Krishna’s funeral in his home town of Maddur where the last rites will be done at 4pm on Wednesday the 11th December 2024. Karnataka government declared a three-day state mourning, with a holiday announced for Wednesday and as a mark of respect for the former Chief Minister and Union Minister S. M. Krishna, flags will be flown at half-mast at top government offices.
