Jammu, J&K |  Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, CWC Member and National Spokesperson for the All India Congress Committee, addressed the media today at a press conference in Jammu. He emphasized the need to assess the performance of the BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade.

He challenged BJP leaders to present their “report card,” asking, “What have you achieved in Jammu and Kashmir over the last ten years?  The Congress leader pressed for accountability in key sectors like education and health, asking about infrastructure developments. “How many bridges, roads and tunnels have you built?” he asked while addressing the media.

Dr. Hussain appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support the National Conference and Congress for a stable government that can foster development. He asserted, “A full-fledged mandate will help us bring the stability needed for progress.”

He also highlighted concerns regarding drug abuse among the youth in the region. Referring to a Standing Committee report, he stated, “According to the report, 13.50 lakh drug users are involved with drugs. Where is this drug coming from? Why is there no investigation? I want to ask the governor and the central government what their road map is to tackle this issue.”

Dr. Hussain stated that if Congress and the National Conference are elected, they will investigate all scams and take action against those responsible, prioritizing local contractors for development projects.

Dr. Hussain criticized the current government for failing to create jobs and for pushing many residents below the poverty line. He stated, “You are not providing employment and are instead taking people below the poverty line. Business contracts are being given to outsiders, and on top of that, the installation of smart meters has increased electricity bills. Who is responsible for this?”

He outlined a series of proposals aimed at supporting women and improving healthcare in the region. “We want to ensure that women benefit from our schemes. We will provide elderly women with ₹3,000 monthly, and offer interest-free loans up to ₹5 lakhs for self-help groups. Additionally, we will provide health insurance of up to ₹25 lakhs and set up mobile clinics and ambulances in every tehsil,” he promised. “Super-speciality hospitals will be established in every district.”

Addressing the education sector, he assured that all closed schools will be reopened and teacher vacancies filled. “We will also open additional schools and colleges, ensuring education reaches every household,” he said.

Dr. Hussain reiterated commitments made by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to conduct a caste census. “This will help us understand the progress of different communities, including education levels, income and land ownership. With this data, we can create better schemes and programs for all,” he explained.

He emphasized the need for statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “For the first time, a state has been converted into a union territory in India. If we come to power, we will fight for statehood, special status and a comprehensive development package to ensure progress for the people here.”

Concluding his address, Dr. Hussain appealed for a full-fledge mandate, saying, “We want to stand for you and raise your voices in Delhi for a better governance and brighter future.”
