Srinagar | Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the citizens of Srinagar at Dal Lake on the occasion of International Day of Yoga today. He commended the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the people of Jammu & Kashmir towards yoga, stating that today’s display of spirit will be remembered for a long time. Despite the rainy weather and a drop in temperature, which caused delays and fragmentation of the event into 2-3 parts, the spirit of the people remained undeterred.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of yoga becoming a daily instinct for both individuals and society. He noted that the true benefits of yoga are realized when it is integrated into daily life and simplified for everyone to follow.

The Prime Minister also touched upon the topic of meditation, a key component of yoga. He acknowledged that meditation might seem intimidating to many due to its spiritual connotations, but he explained that it can be easily understood as the practice of concentration and focus. With regular practice and techniques, this state of mind can lead to great results with minimal tiredness and fewer distractions. He pointed out that meditation, apart from its spiritual journey, serves as a valuable tool for self-improvement and personal training.

“Yoga is as important, applicable, and powerful for the self as it is for society,” Prime Minister Modi stressed. He highlighted that the benefits of yoga extend to all of humanity when embraced by society. He shared his admiration for a competition in Egypt that encouraged participants to photograph or make videos of yoga at iconic tourist spots, praising such creative efforts. The Prime Minister suggested that similarly, yoga and tourism could become a significant source of employment in Jammu & Kashmir.
