New Delhi | “Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, unveiled a groundbreaking initiative today with the launch of ‘ETHANOL 100’ automotive fuel at the Indian Oil Retail Outlet, M/s. Irwin Road Service Station. This innovative fuel, available starting today, will be accessible to customers across 183 select retail outlets in five states – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at the launch event, Minister Puri emphasized that the introduction of ETHANOL 100 aligns with the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transition ‘Annadatas’ (food providers) into ‘Urjadatas’ (energy providers). Describing it as a revolutionary fuel, Minister Puri highlighted its potential to transform the transportation sector and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

He stated, “It reflects the government’s commitment to reducing import dependency, conserving foreign exchange, and bolstering the agriculture sector.” The Minister noted the significant progress made since the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding E20 (20% ethanol blended fuel) in 2023, with E20 availability now expanded to 12,000 outlets within a year. With the launch of ETHANOL 100 at 183 Indian Oil outlets, the nation is poised to achieve the target of 20% ethanol blending by 2025-26.”

“Over the past decade, these ethanol blending initiatives have not only enhanced farmer incomes and rural employment but also contributed to environmental conservation by reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to planting 1.75 crore trees, along with savings amounting to Rs 85,000 crore in foreign exchange.” Hardeep Singh said.
