Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Expresses Concern Over Alarming Suicide Rates in Gujarat

New Delhi | Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has voiced deep concern over the alarming rates of suicides in Gujarat, as revealed by recent data presented in the State Assembly. Kharge highlighted that over 25,000 lives including nearly 500 students have been lost to suicide in the past three financial years under the BJP government’s rule.

Kharge criticized the BJP government for its failure to address the root causes behind the escalating suicide rates in Gujarat. He underscored the disconnect between the state’s purported progress and prosperity and the stark reality of its citizens grappling with despair and hopelessness.

The Congress President condemned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue, noting that the crisis unfolding in his home state demands urgent attention and action. Kharge also criticized Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for his inadequate response to the human tragedy, emphasizing the need for concrete measures to prevent further loss of life.

Kharge called upon the Gujarat government to prioritize the well-being and safety of its citizens and to take immediate and decisive action to address the escalating suicide rates. He emphasized the importance of providing adequate support and resources, particularly in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot, which have witnessed a significant number of suicide cases.
